Exceptional Person Edward M. Ofori

Edward M. Ofori is an Art Director, and Visual Artist in the graphic arts field.

What they do ?
I manage the creative output of a design team- leading the team’s creative direction while upholding a standard level of work that is supportive of the business and satisfies our customers.

How they got to do what they do?
I began directing only two years into my career, which is very uncommon for most graphic artists. Generally speaking, you must have the mind of a leader to be able to lead others- and of course faith in your vision/work.

Tips
You must be focused on what you want to do. Once I chose to go into graphic arts/desktop publishing, I kept at it until I knew all of the major design applications, and looked at the field and decided what area of design I wanted to be in. Look at all the design around you and absorb it. Eat, sleep, and drink graphic design.

Ed is like a mentor to me.  He keeps me updated on all things design related.  He gives me extra projects and exercises, to do to get my creative juices constantly flowing.  He also helps me with design hw or out of school projects.  And I thank him so much for it.  I am a better designer because of it. I am very happy I had the pleasure of meeting him. Here are a few links to his various portfolios.

Exceptional Person Andrew Kim

Name:
Andrew Kim

What I do: I am a web/digital designer at Oxygen Media.

How I got to do what I do: I started off interning here first through a friend of mine, and then I heard back from Kara (project manager) that she was pleased with the work I did while interning. After I graduated school,  she offered my friend and me a freelance position.

Tips: Always make connections with people in your field and always do your best with all of your work. If people see that you work hard, efficiently, and that you’re a very cool person to work with, then chances are you’ll be rewarded for it. Keep in touch with as many designers as possible too because they’re the ones who can recommend or offer you positions in the real world and vice versa.

Flip Phones Are Back

I never thought I'd ever say, I want a flip phone!  But after seeing this amazingly cool video I am saying "I want a flip phone!!"  Kristian Ulrich Larsen is a design student at i believe Kolding School of Design.  She introduced her vision of a flip phone with triple display.  The phone can collapse in your pocket and have three flexible AMOLED touch screens with the power of Android.  Which is my favorite part, because I love android.  It has a steel mesh, aluminum case, and LED lid colored lines.  It's super sheik and bold. I really want Verizon to pick up this phone and put it on their service.  So I could have one of my very own. Watch the video below.  Its inspiring!

UChicago Hookups

A few University of Chicago students have created a casual sex site formally called UChicago Hookups. (now called eduhookups.com)  The purpose of the site is to allow UChicago students, find casual encounters and entertainment events.  The site says “Chastity is curable if detected early” and features a Victor Lownes quote: “A promiscuous person is a person who is getting more sex than you are.”   More than 200 people have already signed up for the service and  are looking for a "no srings attached" sexual experience. "We’re trying to change the ages-old stereotype that UChicago students are severely sexually deprived,” the site’s creator writes on the site.

But is this taking that stereotype too far in a different direction. In my opinion sex is turning into a everyday thing now.  It is supposed to be cherished and shared with a person you love.  Young adults now are treating it like some sort of casual thing you do with your friends.  And the media is only making the situation worst with movies coming out like "No Strings Attached" and "Friends with Benefits" (pretty much the same as "No strings Attached" with different actors). Or shows on MTV like Skins, which shows very sexually active teens. Also teen celebs are having babies.  And we wonder why our teens are geting pregnant at such a young age.  Is society now telling them it's Ok?  That at that age, they are supposed to be having sex and if you get pregnant, oops, O well.
